Orissa Water Supply & Sewerage Board

Odisha Water Supply & Sewerage Board (OWSSB) was established in the year 1991 as per the Odisha Water Supply & Sewerage Board Act, 1991 for the rapid development and proper regulation of water supply and sewerage services in the state of Odisha. It executes major / mega water supply and sewerage projects and after completion, hands over the projects to the Odisha Public Health Engineering Organization (OPHEO) for operation and maintenance.

Odisha Water Supply and Sewerage Board (OWSSB) is the nodal agency in the state to implement the projects related to the urban sanitation. The AMRUT mission has identified sewerage and sanitation as one of the priority sectors in addition to water supply, drainage and other sectors. With the funds made available under the ongoing MoUD flagship programme AMRUT, erstwhile JnNURM, and from the JICA, the H&UD Department has been implementing an Integrated Sewerage Project for Bhubaneswar to cover all the sewerage districts demarcated in Bhubaneswar.

Odisha Water Supply & Sewerage Board (OWSSB) has successfully completed the Pollution Abatement Schemes in:

  1. River Baitarani at Chandabali
  2. River Brahmani at Dharmasala
  3. River Mahanadi and Kathajori at Cuttack.

A river pollution abatement scheme for Brahmani at Talcher and a sewerage project at Puri are currently under execution.
